The National Institute of Research – Development for Machines and Installations Designed for Agriculture and Food Industry – INMA Bucharest has the oldest and most prestigious research tradition in Romania in the field of agricultural machinery and mechanization technologies.

1927

The first Research Centre for Agricultural Machinery was established within the Agronomic Research Institute of Romania – ICAR (established by Law published in the Official Gazette no. 97/05.05.1927).

1930

The Testing Station for Agricultural Machines and Tools was founded by transforming the ICAR Research Centre — laying the scientific foundation for methodologies and experimental techniques in the field (Decision no. 2000/1930 by ICAR Director GHEORGHE IONESCU-ȘIȘEȘTI).

1952

The Institute for Research on the Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture – ICMA Băneasa was created by transforming the Testing Station for Agricultural Machines and Tools.

1960

The Enterprise for the Design and Production of Agricultural Machinery, Equipment, and Installations Prototypes – IPMA Otopeni was established.

1979

The Scientific Research and Technological Engineering Institute for Agricultural Machinery and Equipment – ICSITMUA, subordinated to MICM, was established by merging ICMA subordinated to MAA with ICPMA subordinated to MICM;

1996

The National Institute of Research – Development for Machines and Installations Designed for Agriculture and Food Industry – INMA was established by Government Decision no. 1308/25.11.1996, reorganizing ICSITMUA. It was placed under the coordination of the Ministry of Education and Research (Government Decision 823/2004).

2008

INMA was accredited to carry out publicly funded research and development activities, in accordance with Government Decision 551/2007, Decision of ANCS no. 9634/2008.

2009

INMA became a member of the prestigious European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG), which brings together in a consortium: equipment manufacturers for the food industry, research institutes, and public health authorities. EHEDG was founded in 1989 with the goal of promoting hygiene throughout the food processing and packaging chain. Its core mission is to support the production of safe food by improving hygienic design and engineering at every stage of food processing.
